Seeing Stars: Fleur du Mal

Fleur du Mal Superstar Sleeveless dress.

I wasn't planning on writing a new blog post because I'm currently working on another post, but I saw this collection pop up in my Facebook feed and I was so taken by it, I couldn't not share. Over the past few years, lingerie brands have been putting out collections with star prints, and I'm fully on board with the trend. When Fleur du Mal's Superstar collection came up while I was scrolling on Facebook, I knew I had to write about it.

Fleur du Mal was created in 2012 by designer, Jennifer Zuccarini, who had previously launched Kiki de Montparnasse in 2006, and designed for Victoria's Secret. Zuccarini is a fellow Toronto native and studied fine arts in Montreal before moving to New York, where she got another degree at FIT, and co-launched Kiki. After a while Zuccarini left Kiki to work on her own projects when she was approached to work for Victoria's Secret, and she took the job to see what working for a big corporate company was like. After that, she itched to start her own line and with the experience from working for the biggest lingerie brand in the world and from her experience as an indie designer, she launched Fleur du Mal.

Fleur du Mal seeks to bring customers pieces that are luxurious but that are still wearable in day to day life. Many people are intimidated by expensive lingerie and only want to wear it for special occasions, and this is the way of thinking Fleur du Mal wants to dispose of (I also agree that beautiful lingerie should be worn everyday). Their pieces combine luxury fabrics and styles with everyday comfort and wearability.

Fleur du Mal is a brand that I've kept tabs on for a while, but just haven't written about yet -- there's so much to write about and so little time! But this collection for me is a standout that I had to get to it quickly (I'll probably write more about them later on). One of my favourite things about the brand is that they incorporate lingerie, loungewear, and outerwear into the same category and make pieces for all three that can be mixed and matched for in the bedroom and out. In the lookbook for this collection, the dresses are paired with the matching bralette, a half-slip, and a bodysuit.

The only downside to the lingerie is that the bralette only runs in XS-L, making sizing tricky. As a full-bused small-backed person, this kind of sizing is difficult to buy because I find if the back fits the cup doesn't, or if the cup fits, then the back is too big. I have had some luck ordering these kinds of pieces but I've also had some misses.

Still, I think it's a beautiful collection and I love that the dresses could be worn in multiple ways, and with other lingerie garments. I think the styling is on-point and gives people good ideas for how to incorporate their lingerie into their everyday lives.

What do you think of this collection and of Fleur du Mal? Let me know in the comments!
