Lusting After.... Studio Pia

Studio Pia Liana Plunge Basque.

Studio Pia, a British indie brand, is one that I've had my eye on since they debuted their beautiful first collection, aptly named the Jungle collection, about a year ago. I was taken aback by the stunning embroidery used on two of the three collections from this line, Liana and Adrina combined with the structure of the Bella range. The Jungle collection pulls inspiration from the work of Henri Rousseau and reimagines his paintings into silk, embroidery, and 24k gold hardware. But given Pia Conaghan's previous work in the lingerie industry, it's not surprising that she'd kill it with her first collection from her own lingerie brand.

Pia holds a BA from the London School of Fashion, from where she graduated in 2009 and quickly delved into designing in the lingerie industry. She began freelance designing for brands like Bordelle, Honey Birdette, Dolci Follie, and A'Zaira Intimates. Pia also, and still does, offered bespoke lingerie orders for customers who wanted something different, along with brand consulting. Pia's designs for these brands have been worn by Beyonce, Madonna, and Britney Spears, and other celebrities in countless magazines.

However, Pia noticed a gap in the market for truly luxe ethically made lingerie, and decided that she wanted to create lingerie that was not only beautiful, but good for the environment. Her collections only use cruelty-free peace silk and her overall goal with the brand was to go against preconceived notions of ethical garments as not being luxurious.

Studio Pia's second collection, Daedal, is currently available for pre-order and is absolutely exquisite. I was so thrilled to see new colourways and styles in this line, with the addition of some brand new designs. The Bella range is being offered in cream and black, and the Soraya range, offered in black and cream with gold, acts as a sister range to the Liana line. Once again, the embroidery and craftsmanship in this new collection makes my heart skip a beat when I look at it. However, I'm even more excited about their new designs!

I'm in love with the Clea range, which is currently only offered in the jet colour, despite there being look book shots of the green silk. Regardless, it's a gorgeous fetish inspired set which reminds of me of Pia's work for brands like Bordelle that sell luxury fetish lingerie. I feel as though there isn't a lot being offered in terms of luxury fetish lingerie, there is quite a lot of it, but it isn't at the luxury level. This set is also impressive to me because it's strappy and not boring. The strappy lingerie trend has been around for a few years now and it's gotten stale. I feel like I've seen so much of it that I've become desensitized to its original charm. However, the Clea set, the bra in particular, is fresh and exciting, and I'm especially into the horse-shoe rings used. These aren't a detail often seen in lingerie, and it's especially clever how they cup the nipples!

Another beautiful new range in the collection is the Zuza line, I love the use of yellow-gold silk. I feel like it's a colour that isn't often used in lingerie and I think it's so flattering across a range of skin tones. This collection, like the Bella, Soraya, and Liana lines, has the option of both a wired bra and a bralette. However, unlike the other collections range, the bralette and wired bra are quite similar so it's easier to achieve the same look. I personally prefer the wired bra, one because I generally prefer wired bras, but also because I feel like it's a more substantial design. But the wireless does have a front closure, something that can be hard to find in lingerie.

What do you think of Studio Pia and their second collection? Let me know in the comments!
