Lusting After... Gilda & Pearl

Gilda & Pearl is a British luxury lingerie and loungewear brand after my own heart. They're heavily inspired by old Hollywood glamour and cinema and many of their collections are named after Hollywood starlets and films. The brand's aesthetic is retro luxury and their pieces are made with gorgeous silks and incredible laces. I'm currently loving the silk and lace combination on the Bloomsbury kimono above and in the other pieces from that collection. Their A/W collection has been filled with rich jewel tones trimmed with glittering gold leavers lace, contrasted with delicate blush tones and whites.

I'm a big fan of jewel tones, especially for fall, and Gilda & Pearl's use of emerald and merlot shades of silk have me swooning. I could only imagine how luxurious one would feel lounging at home in one of their silk gowns and robes!

Gilda & Pearl was launched by Diane Houston in 2011 after the 1946 film, Gilda, starring Rita Hayworth, and takes on the femme fatale aesthetic in its pieces. Houston's mother worked in the textile industry in the UK, and her brother restores antiques, so it made sense that she would go into a textile-based profession with an emphasis on old Hollywood glamour. Gilda & Pearl is based in the UK and every product from the collection is made there, along with most of the materials used for the garments aside from the lace, which is imported from France. Houston spent some time in Lyon working in a lace factory and fell in love with French leavers lace, and has even based entire collections around it.

One of my favourite Gilda & Pearl pieces is the Harlow Lace Bodysuit, that's made entirely out of exquisite gold leavers lace. The entire Harlow collection is gorgeous actually, and of course is named after 1930s screen siren, Jean Harlow. Another gorgeous piece in the Harlow collection and in other collections is G&P's signature side-tie knickers. These are a great piece for gifts as well because they're more flexible in terms of sizing because of the ties at the hips.

The only gripe I have with the company is that they have a small size range, but I understand that it's hard to be a smaller company with a huge variety of sizes, it just isn't economically feasible. But they do have a bespoke option that allows folks to order sizes that aren't included in their core size range. But I imagine this does cost more money but as these are luxury pieces, the cost is likely worth it because you want your high quality garments to fit as well as they can. G&P can also collaborate with their customers to create new pieces with their bespoke team!

Another exciting development is the By Diane Houston line, created by the head designer and creator for Gilda and Pearl. They currently have a website up previewing pieces that will be launched later this month, but I'm very excited about it. They're creating nightwear pieces in beautiful prints (like the one above) and laces. It seems to be a more whimsical collection than G&P but still just as lovely.

If Gilda & Pearl is out of your price range, you can check out their Depop shop where they sell samples that look like they're in beautiful condition. I've been following the shop for a little while now and they update their items for sale fairly frequently. They also have some By Diane Houston samples for sale if you want to get your hands on those early!
