Lusting After... Jane Woolrich

I've been following Jane Woolrich for quite a while, and I absolutely love this brand because they pull out all the stops when it comes to their corsets and lingerie. There is so much detail, embellishment and unabashed femininity in all their pieces and it's something that really speaks to me as a love of anything pink, frilly, and lacy.

Jane Woolrich started her namesake brand 30 years ago and is still going strong today. She's known for her over-the-top sexy and feminine pieces that are made of the most beautiful silks and the finest French chantilly laces. Her gowns and corsets are not only made to be seen, but to be enjoyed and rarely slept in, if you get what I mean!

The brand is very well-known in the luxury lingerie circuit for creating beautiful feminine lingerie, loungewear, and corsets and the company has clients all over the world, including celebrities and royalty.

As a vintage fashion and lingerie lover, Jane Woolrich speaks to me because a lot of her designs are reminiscent of lingerie of years past. Many of her slips and loungewear reminds me of 1920s and 30s styles, like the gorgeous lilac set above. I love when brands use vintage lingerie and styles as inspiration and make it into something absolutely gorgeous. Jane Woolrich takes everything to 11 and no detail is spared, just look at how gorgeous the lace inlay is with the incredible detailed lace bows and the adorable little bows on the knicker and straps that tie it all together.

Everything else the brand makes is just as detailed and gorgeous, and probably their best known garments are their nightgowns. These are the items from Jane Woolrich most on stockists and on social media because of how absolutely beautiful they are, and they're in the mid-range of their price-point. They're definitely expensive, starting at £312 (approx $400usd and $500cad) but they're more easily justifiable to purchase than other garments, like corsets, because they have a lot of wearability. They're also absolutely stunning, but I've been saying that about every Jane Woolrich piece now!

This piece above isn't a gown but it's one of my favourites because of the little ruffles at the back, reminiscent of a bustle and adding volume at the back of the piece. The inlaid lace detailing is one of my favourite things about Jane Woolrich designs and it's very costly to do and requires a lot of skill on the part of the person sewing it in.

I also adore the laced back, something that Woolrich was the first to do in slips in 1987, tying the loungewear line in with her corsets and making her collections streamlined. The lace-up back is a signature for Jane Woolrich and is what the brand is known for when it comes to their loungewear.

Everything by Jane Woolrich is made-to-order and fully customizable from the choice of lace to the colour of the silk and sizes go up to 3X. There are countless combinations and it's nice to be involved in the process of making the pieces you're going to be wearing. The amount of colours and laces they have can be overwhelming though, there are so many beautiful colours and colour combinations!

However, probably my favourite thing about Jane Woolrich is their total lack of practicality. Everything is made to be beautiful and everything else comes second. The brand is and has been making pieces for 30 years that are meant simply to be beautiful and for the wearer to feel absolutely gorgeous in. I think this is the most important thing about lingerie, as someone who highly values aesthetics and beauty. I and many other women love wearing over-the-top lingerie because it is so beautiful and it makes you feel amazing when you wear it.

Woolrich's styles are classic and can be worn for decades and still look as stylish as when they were bought. I also imagine with the amount of work and craftsmanship put in, her pieces can be worn for decades and still look as lovely as the day they were made.
